Flooring trends for our kitchens in the South

When I started work here 10 years ago, you didn't see much hardwoods in a kitchen. It was always tile. However, over the last 2-3 years, hardwoods have taken over our kitchens here in the South! I would say the main reason for this new trend is because most people are going for the open concept floor plans and who wants that transition from tile to wood right in the middle of your kitchen and living room or dining room? That kinda defeats the whole purpose of "open concept". I am totally on board with this trend. I love hardwoods in a kitchen. It feels warm & comforting, cozy & welcoming!

Another trend here in the south is having your kitchen island painted a different color from your cabinets. I also think this trend is here to stay for a long time. It's a fun way to bring life and color into your kitchen without going overboard.

Here are some great examples of Hardwoods in the kitchen & colorful islands!

White cabinets with a yellow island and dark, rich, handsculpted hardwoods! This is so cheery! Perfect kitchen to wake up to a cup of Joe and get the day started!

This green is not a color I've personally seen on an island, but I really like it! It's relexaing & the subway tile backsplash to match really compliments it. Here is a traditional, medium toned hardwood that works very well in this kitchen!

This Navy Blue island is beauitul & works
nice with the high gloss hardwoods.

Contemporary cabinets, rustic island, & traditional hardwood
floors! Hmmmm......sounds strange, but isn't it fun!

I had to throw this one in. LOVE love love the Royal Blue bottoms with metal shelves serving as upper storage with a fun chandelier! The traditional hardwood floors in a honey color pulls it all together! After all, blue and orange are complimentary! And, isn't this dog too cute? :)
