Thanksgiving table-scapes

If there is one time of year where you let yourself get out the best china, spend a little money to buy some beautiful flowers and definitely get out the secret recipes, it is Thanksgiving. I always love to see a beautiful Thanksgiving table-scape. You don't have to spend a lot of money to achieve a beautiful look; just take the time to think it thru and it will be something special.

Here are some great examples:

Have you ever had your Thanksgiving dinner outside? If weather permits, you should try it at least once! Make a pumpkin pathway to your Thanksgiving celebration. I love this casual setting with plaid blankets & comfy pillows. pic via banditsranch.com

It's October yall!

Fall has such a majestic feel to it! The feeling in the air is undeniable. It is a time to pick apples & pumpkins, hit a few haunted houses & go to some fall get togethers to share time with family & friends. Don't forget you must make time to take a scenic drive through the mountains and soak up the brilliant colors Mother Nature blesses us with! Fall is also a fun time to decorate you home. Let's face it though Fall decor can be expensive. Don't fret.....we've gathered some great ideas to do your own DIY fall projects. Share these projects with your kids & grand kids and make a tradition of adding a piece to your homemade collection every year. It's memories you can never replace that will last a life time. We hope you enjoy these great examples!

Mason Jars can be oh so many things! From beverages to canning to decor; the possibilities are endless! Paint mason jars in a vintage style and added silk flowers to a mantle or entrance table.

A place to dine!

Dining rooms are traditionally made to be intimate. You invite your friends and loved ones over and share a great meal and great conversation. Maybe you are celebrating a special event, or a casual dinner just to catch up because life is so busy. We all love having a separate dining space, but there are many of us that only have an eat in kitchen or maybe an open concept kitchen / living room. These spaces can be very challenging. One reason is that many eat in kitchens have back doors or laundry/mud room doors that are connected which plays a factor in configuring the space. Another challenge is some eat in kitchens can be narrow such as a galley style or just awkwardly shaped. A great solution to these problems can be to use a settee as part of your dining arrangement. A settee is great because you can push it right up against a wall which will give you a wider walk way. Functionality is very important but may I also mention how fun and unique a settee can make a seating arrangement. Let's look at some examples:
This  blue camel back settee makes a lovely seating area & pops in just enough color for this eat in kitchen area.. via: desiretoinspire.net

This looks like a beautiful, custom made settee, and who doesn't want a one of a kind..? It compliments the oval shaped table perfectly! The patterns and shape of the settee keeps gives balance to the neutral space, along with the beautiful chandelier.   via: carlaaston.com

This tuxedo style settee is the perfect style for this vintage / modern eat in space. The traffic coming in the door has JUST ENOUGH clearance to make the walkway work. via: carlaaston.com

Using my imagination I picture this being an open concept kitchen / living space. Using the wall by the stairwell is a great idea for putting a settee up against it. They've accomplished making this open dining space very intimate but also casual  with the use of wicker chairs and a tradition style pinstriped settee! via bhg.com
And last but not least, here is another open concept kitchen with a settee dining area.  This arrangement eases the flow from the kitchen, to the dining, to the living. via decorpad.com

A settee can be used as casual or dressy, rustic or eclectic. You are very limitless to the possibilities. May your imagination run wild!

Let's talk coral

Awwee....Coral, the lovely color that's not too bright, and not too dull, calming but cheerful; a perfect balance of tone in fact to be used in any room you choose. Don't restrict Coral to only being used in a beach home or girl's space. This color is A LOT more universal than that! From kitchens - bedrooms - bathrooms - sun rooms, this color is spot on for fun! Coral is complimentary to teal which makes a beautiful room, but don't get me wrong, Coral can definitely stand on it's on two feet!

Here are some beautiful tones of Coral paint which would make a great monochromatic room:

Let's look at some different ways to use Coral:

Use Coral as a color of "WELCOME". Weathered siding is a great backdrop for a beautiful Coral front door..

Here is a great way to use Coral on the walls without it overwhelming the space. Use White wainscotting to balance out the Coral and you are good to go!

Another way to use Coral on the walls without it being to overwhelming is to just use it on one "accent wall".  This is just enough Coral to not be too over powering.
Coral is also a great color to use for accents or furniture:

and last but not least I thought I would share a  kitchen that is pretty unique: This kitchen is a little out there. Somehow though, I can't help but find myself drawn in by it! Pic via Pinterest
Coral and light Teal "lower" cabinets. Check out the circle backsplash! This is very funky but cool if you had a vacation home you could afford to be a little adventurous with!

Stay calm and go to the beach!

It's that time of year again: FUN IN THE SUN! It's time to get away and relax, just for a spell to chase the stresses of life away. A beach vaca has a way of letting you forget your cares because the beach seems to run on it's own clock. Do you ever go to the beach and just lose track of what day it is? I have and it's a great feeling! Of course, it's not fun when it's over but you always bring back memories to last a lifetime!

Not only is the beach a blast, but decorating "coastal living" is so much fun. When I think of coastal decor, I automatically think of calm relaxing color pallets: calming blues / greens with khakis/creams and whites.

If you are totally obsessed with the beach and want to decorate at least a room in your home to reflect that passion, there is an endless amount of possibilities. Maybe you have just purchased a beach house or condo and need some inspiration for the decor........well we are going to post some pics that will definitely help! Pics via Pinterest
Can't help but love a coastal home with blue siding. It's stand's out, but is calming at the same time.

Make your room neutral but paint your floors a soft blue!

Here is a good example of just using "touches" of coastal.

Here is another example of a very subtle coastal look. Loving all different patterns: stripes, polka dots, damask.

This bathroom has a relaxing light green & creme color scheme throughout. If your want to achieve that feeling, stay with calm light / neutral pallets. Relaxing is what I want when I go to take a shower or bath; it's time to unwind after all!

GORGEOUS open concept kitchen/dining featuring:  green subway tile, white cabinets, wicker chairs & a green island. This kitchen/dining has the perfect balance to make it flow seamlessly into the living area.

I have showed you more soft coastal colors, but if you want a brighter color in your coastal space, think turquoise for sure!

Spring is upon us!

This has been a long, harsh Winter in America! We even got several inches of snow & ice here in Alabama which usually consists of not much more than a dusting. Needless to say I think everyone is ready for spring! Well, tomorrow is the big day and I can't think of a better color to celebrate spring than our good pal "YELLOW"! :) Yellow is such a brilliantly cheerful color. I don't know of another color out there that could possibly welcome Spring in as cheerfully as yellow! Let's look at some rooms that will help cheer us up:
Pale yellow is the perfect color in a Cottage style bedroom!

This room has a retro feel with it's 1960's color combo: "yellow and green"; not to mention the display of sunburst mirrors. This is a nice modern take of an era gone by.

Yellow cabinets: a cheerful kitchen to cook in for sure!

I love this yellow floral headboard. It's always fun to use stripes & floral together.

Give a piece of furniture such as your antique Cable piano a face lift by painting it yellow!

Want to make your guests feel welcome? A yellow door will achieve that feeling!

                                                                  HAPPY SPRING! :)
